Introduction

Welcome to Card Golf Tour (CGT), the newest golf card game in the market! In this blog, you’ll find information regarding why CGT was founded, why we know you’ll love CGT, future plans for CGT, as well as some information about the founders of CGT. We plan to publish blogs twice a month on our website; We will post a business update blog at the beginning of each month, which will provide updates on how CGT is going, as well as future plans for CGT. Additionally, we will post game update blogs halfway through each month. These blogs will introduce a new way to play CGT, and will also provide advice on strategies that could be used while playing CGT.

What is Card Golf Tour?

Card Golf Tour (CGT) is a card game focused on the game of golf. In CGT, players will aim to shoot par or better on each hole by strategically drawing, matching, keeping, and discarding cards. Similar to the classic card game ‘Golf’, CGT is meant to be played with a group of 2-5 people.

Why Was Card Golf Tour Created?

The initial idea to start Card Golf Tour came from our families frustration while playing the traditional card game ‘Golf’. For readers unfamiliar with the rules of ‘Golf’, this link will take you to an article describing how to play the card game. After many years of playing the game, our family had began to think of ways to make ‘Golf’ more fun, competitive, and strategic. A few issues we noticed with ‘Golf’ were as follows:

  1. Scoring System: By the third hand, one person could have a score of –5 while another person could have a score of 40. This would lead to the game becoming uncompetitive very quick. Thus, we created sets of scores relative to par (eagle, birdie, par, bogey, double bogey, etc.) that would be recorded at the conclusion of the hand instead of the original point total. This leads to players’ scores being closer throughout the round.

  1. Cancelling pairs of cards out: We determined that simply being able to cancel cards out based on numerical value was too common/easy. Thus, in CGT the cards must be of the same numerical value AND color in order to be cancelled out.

  1. ‘Golf’ lacked similarity to the actual game of golf: Outside of trying to have the lowest score possible, there was no connection between ‘Golf’ and actual golf. Thus, we designed our own deck of cards where each card is a golf club. We implemented a par system that determines how many cards are dealt to each player in a given hand (shortens or lengthens the hand, like how golf holes are different lengths). We implemented a stroke index system to change the difficulty of the hand (similar to how some golf holes are more difficult than others). And we created a scoring system relative to par (players will shoot birdies, pars, bogeys, etc).

After addressing theses issues we found in ‘Golf’, we made a couple additions to the game to make it more fun and functional. We determined that the size of the deck being used will vary based on the amount of players. This was implemented to ensure that the draw pile is almost never extinguished before any one player finishes their hand. We also added a dice role component to the game which will determine the order of play during each hand. This resulted in the game feeling less monotonous and more suspenseful.

As a result of these changes, we believe that Card Golf Tour is the most fun, strategic, and competitive golf card game in the market.

Why You’ll Love Card Golf Tour

The overwhelming response when we first played CGT with friends and family was that the game was very unique and exciting! Many of them were unfamiliar with golf at first, but learned about the game quickly through playing Card Golf Tour. From learning about different golf clubs, to learning how a par is different than a bogey, Card Golf Tour is a great way to learn about golf before you go out on the course. Additionally, players will love how competitive the game is. Almost every round of CGT you’ll play will have the winner determined in the final hand, which makes for a very engaging and entertaining time with friends and family. Whether you’re an experienced cards player, or are just looking to try out a new game, CGT is easy to learn and rewarding to play. CGT is also a great game to play after a round of actual golf! The parallels between actual golf and CGT are prevalent throughout the game, and make playing a round of CGT after a day on the course even more enjoyable. With upcoming releases of new ways to play our game, as well as the future development of an an app, the team at CGT will constantly be looking for ways to improve the game for our community!

Future Plans

At CGT, we pride ourselves on our commitment to keep our game feeling new and exciting. As a testament to this commitment, we plan on routinely developing and promoting new ways to play Card Golf Tour. Instructions for formats such as scramble, alternate shot, and wolf will be released in the near future to help keep the CGT community engaged. Additionally, we plan on building a CGT app that would allow users to play their favorite Card Golf Tour games on any device! Through the use of this app, we will also hold tournaments for the CGT community, and will implement a handicap tracker to allow players to record their scores and build a CGT handicap.

One Response

  1. The Card Golf Tour (CGT) is a vast improvement over the original “Golf” card game. CGT incorporates most all facets of an actual round of golf as played on your local muny or the best resort courses in the world. A typical round includes Par 3’s, Par 4’s and Par 5 holes, where the # of cards in-play reflects the difficulty of each hole played. CGT cards are uniquely designed to help players make fast decisions, resulting then in fast action on the course. Concentration is essential, least you lose your focus and drop a shot or lose a hole.
A GHIN-like handicap can even the playing field and promote friendly wagering on holes and rounds. Formats can change from medal play, to match play, to 4-ball (best ball, maybe with a press on the final hole) and foursomes (alternate shot). Traditional golf games like scrambles, shambles, Nassaus, Wolf, Sixes, Skins. Just knock yourself out!!
I can see the possibility of an app that would foster remote play and limitless possibilities!
Stay tuned!!! Invest in Card Golf Tour because these guys are GOOD…
